Two arrests following explosion in Emmen

A residential area in Emmen was rocked by an explosion on Sunday afternoon, De Telegraaf reports today.

Police arrested two men with minor injuries, who were seen running from the house. The explosion blew away part of the roof and one of the arrested men was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The affected property was an apartment in the district of Rietlanden. Due to the risk of explosives in the apartment the Police and Fire Department did not immediately enter the property.

As a precaution, ten neighbouring homes were evacuated. The resident had to stay away overnight.

Bomb disposal experts took an amount of suspect material to wasteground outside Emmen for controlled detonation.

It was announced this morning that the investigation in the house is ongoing.
