Privacy violators face heavier fines

The Netherlands' data protection authority, the Cbp, is likely to hand out stiff fines to violators of privacy rules this autumn. The Ministry of Justice is currently working on new legislation, AD reported after interviewing Cbp president Jacob Kohnstamm.

Examples will include individuals, businesses and organisations that post photos or video of "suspects" on the internet. Fines could be as much as €25000, says Mr. Kohnstamm.
