Fewer robberies in Amsterdam

The number of robberies in the city over the last 6 months fell by 29 percent. The attacks have been more violent than previously though, and jewellers and wholesalers are relatively more likely to become victims.

National Police figures showed a drop to 181 for the past 6 months compared to 254 for the same period last year. The municipality claims this is a result of it's tougher stance on youth crime. Metro newspaper reported that robbers are often heavily armed. The municipality announced it's clampdown to combat the problem will continue.
