Dutch police must learn to tweet

Police union sees little in it.

From September police officers will receive twittering lessons. The "social media master class" will ensure officers can use the online messaging website.

The initiative comes from the Digital Forensic Investigation Department. Frans-Jan Mulschlegel from the department says in the latest edition of Police Academy magazine that social media should be a standard part of officer training. The police union sees little value in it.

However it comes with a warning. "If you want to post something that is not consistent with  your police work or that you might pay for later, then you just shouldn't do it" says Mr Mulschlegel in the Metro today.
